APPLICATION AND ADMISSION PROCEDURES

Because of the large number of applications to our graduate program in the Department of Psychology, we are not able to send each applicant a notice acknowledging receipt of their application. Neither is it possible to grant personal interviews. When all applications have been received and evaluated, prospective candidates are contacted. Decisions are usually made around April 1, although it is possible that some decisions are made earlier. Interviews are not required. You are, of course, welcome to visit the Department at any time.

The following materials can be obtained from The Graduate School, Unit 1006, University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT 06269-1006 (Phone: 860-486-3617):

You should take the GRE by November or earlier. Scores of tests taken beyond November may not reach us in time to be considered as part of application packages.

Need-based financial aid awards can be made only if an applicant's financial need has been established. At most universities, the amount of financial need can be established only by completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which must be mailed to Iowa City, IA. It is to every student's advantage to complete the FAFSA when applying to graduate school. You may obtain the form from our Office of Student Financial Aid Services (233 Glenbrook Road, Unit 4116, Storrs, CT 06269-4116; Phone: 860-486-2819), or online.

  • Students can find more information about the individual graduate programs by following the program links at the top left of this page.
  • Prospective applicants who have not been admitted to a degree program at this University may take courses as a non-degree student although this will not guarantee admission at a later date. Should you later apply and be admitted to a degree program at this University, usually not more than 6 credits (with a grade of at least B) will be accepted toward the Master's degree (which is earned as a student works towards a PhD).
